The beautiful scenery, cultural monuments of each city and small towns, scattered villages with their typical folklore and traditions, the vast number of cultural events organised during the year all attract tourist to take a visit to this picturesque part of Slovakia.

 

The longest Slovak river, Váh, which represents the central axis of this region, has endowed central Považie with its typical character. The central part of the region is known for its mineral and thermal springs with excellent healing effects.

Well known spa town Trenčianske Teplice is situated 15 km from Trenčín. Spas are suitable for treatments targeting locomotive organs and nervous system. Natural calcific-sulphury springs with temperature 36-40°C spring directly into thermal pools and are used without any further treating. The most prominent and characteristic building of the spas and of the town is the Sina house with popular Hammam baths, built in oriental style.


Other interesting touristic localities include a monastery in Skalka nad Váhom, or several other ancient castles, the most spectacular of which are the castles of Čachtice, Strečno or the majestic fortress in Beckov. Families with children might appreciate the ZOO situated right next to the romantic chateau of Bojnice. In a picturesque village of Čičmany you can discover  treasures of classic Slovak architecture. Those seeking relax, might appreciate vast forests surrounding the valley, full of natural phenomenons, like the unique rock formations of Súľovské skaly.
